Many sewing machines feature a free arm beneath the sewing workplace. Some also include one storage tray. As a result, the machine might get unstable. The fabrics might get stuck anytime. One easy solution to this trouble is making a drop. It will help to level the tool on the table.

Let’s talk about the process of making a drop in the sewing table:

Step 1: Collect All Requirements

The quilting surface can be either a wood table or a metallic one. You have to select the required tools according to the type of material. Cutting a wood table is easier than cutting the other types. You have to use multiple items, including a drill and a jigsaw. Besides, you will need screws, nuts, washers, sanders, a pencil, glue, etc.

Step 2: Outline the Spots for Placing Your Sewing Machine

The first step is finding the most suitable position to place the sewing device. Check it several times to confirm the ideal place for the sewing table. Take your marker to trace the outline of the machine when it is on the table. Complete it carefully and remove the sewing machine. Then recheck the placement to make sure that you can work conveniently in that position.

Step 3: Drill a Hole in the Tabletop

Create a hole on the traced outline for the jigsaw blade. You can do this with a power drill. After this, insert your jigsaw into the gap. Start cutting along the traced shape carefully.

Avoid creating larger holes compared to the outline. For beginners, we recommend starting this process inside the closed figure and then going outwards gradually.

Step 4: Confirm the Sewing Machine’s Fitness

As soon as you finish the previous phase, it’s time to check the stability of the machine. Try to position the device as well as its cables inside the hole. If it is not spacious enough, the tool won’t fit it. In this case, expand the space more until it fits perfectly.

Step 5: Make the Base

Building the base support is compulsory to make the machine stable in its position. Determine the distance from the working surface to the last end of your sewing machine. Compare the measurement to the distance from the workspace to the base support.

It might require overturning or adding a few wood blocks with glue. After achieving the proper depth, connect the base across the dimensions of the slot. Use glue and a screw to secure its position and let it dry.

Step 6: Smooth Out the Edges

The construction process might result in ruffled edges. You need to fix them as soon as possible. Otherwise, they might scratch your skin and clothes and tear the fabrics of your projects.  So, give the edges a smooth finish using sander paper.

Step 7: Raise the Sewing Machine

Put the machine into the slot along with the attached sewing surface.
