How to Sew a Peek-a-Boo Neckline Top?

You can sew a Peek-a-Boo Neckline Top. By modifying a trapeze-style pattern, adding a unique neckline, and sewing it thoughtfully, we crafted a comforting and stylish garment to lift spirits and inspire others to sew with purpose and compassion.
Materials Needed
- Trapeze-style top pattern (I used McCall’s 5583)
- Fabric (main fabric and contrasting fabric for the neckline)
- Sewing machine
- Serger (optional)
- Pins
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Iron
- Tear-away stabilizer
- Lightweight interfacing
- Erasable friction marker
- Thread
Step 1: Prepare the Pattern and Fabric

- Cut off 9.5 inches from the front and back of the pattern to create a shorter length.
- Eliminate any darts and modify the pattern to accommodate knit fabric.
- Choose a soft and comfortable fabric for the main part of the top and a contrasting fabric for the peek-a-boo neckline.
Step 2: Create the Peek-a-Boo Neckline

- Sketch the desired neckline shape on graph paper.
- Cut down the front neckline by 3 inches and across by 1⅝ inches.
- Cut out the peek-a-boo V-shape carefully, adding seam allowance.
- Prepare a tear-away stabilizer template for the V-neck shape and stay stitch along the edges.
- Cut a snip at the bottom of the V and fold the fabric back to create the peek-a-boo effect.
- Sew the V-neck seams, press them open, and admire your beautiful neckline detail.
Step 3: Prepare the Neckband

- Measure the modified neckline and calculate the length of the neckband (75% of the neckline length).
- Cut two strips of contrasting fabric, each 1.5 inches wide and the calculated length plus seam allowance.
- Sew the strips into loops, press the seams open, and fold them in half lengthwise.
Step 4: Attach the Neckband

- Pin the neckband to the neckline, stretching slightly to fit.
- Sew the neckband in place, ensuring a snug fit around the neckline.
- Edge stitch the neckline to secure the neckband and maintain its shape.
Step 5: Assemble the Top

- Sew the shoulder seams, matching the front and back pieces.
- Set the sleeves by serging from notch to notch and attaching them to the armholes.
- Sew the side seams from sleeve hem to bottom hem, matching the seams and edges.
Step 6: Finish the Sleeves and Hem

- Sew sleeve bands using contrasting fabric, attaching them to the sleeve hems.
- Hem the bottom of the top, folding and stitching in place.
- Edge stitch the sleeve bands for a polished look.
Step 7: Final Touches

- Give the top a final press to smooth out any wrinkles and ensure a professional finish.
- Admire your completed peek-a-boo neckline top, a thoughtful creation filled with love and care.
Conclusion
Creating this peek-a-boo neckline top has been both a creative endeavor and a gesture of love and support for my dear friend. Sewing can be a powerful way to provide comfort and positivity. I hope this step-by-step guide inspires. Until next time, happy sewing!
